learnd has procured the rights to the patent portfolio for demand side response applications from Reactive Technologies.
This purchase is a major step in furthering learnd’s mission of decarbonizing the built environment, giving them the IP to systematically manage flexible energy loads across the network.
This methodology, combined with learnd’s market leading platform will allow learnd to use the heating, ventilation and cooling loads within a group of buildings to track the local imbalances between supply and demand on the electrical grid in real time, enabling additional renewable generation or electrical vehicle chargers to be safely and efficiently integrated onto the system without risking blackouts.

With learnd’s building network spanning over 10,000 buildings, this could create up to 100MW of energy that can be flexed within the grid – helping to deliver carbon saving operating efficiencies. The patent portfolio is one of many steps in learnd’s strategy to connect and leverage buildings’ energy emissions at scale to become the most relevant energy management company in Europe.
