Our story

From our first jobs in the buildings industry, over ten years ago, we have always wanted to find a way to help people get more from their buildings.

During that time, we have seen many industries be transformed by new technology, yet the buildings industry has remained the same.

Many companies – both big and small – have tried and failed to revolutionise the buildings industry using technology. They relied on flashy marketing and meaningless buzzwords which, unsurprisingly, resulted in under delivery and broken promises.

learnd is different. Years of hard work and preparation has resulted in a unique architecture that combines the very best in technology with real “on the ground” delivery capability.

This is a journey and we are moving fast – with a relentless desire to help organisations get what they want and need from their buildings.

Founded in 2002 in the North West of England, Allied Lifts provide lift installation, maintenance and moderisation, alongside 24-hour callouts for emergency repairs. Allied Lifts work in multiple sectors, from prisons, schools and hospitals, right through to football stadiums and manufacturing plant. With their expertise in open and closed protocol systems, and strategic manufacturer partners, Allied are a fantastic addition to the learnd family.

John Clifford

From an engineering background, with a Masters Degree in Systems Engineering, John’s career has spanned both the buildings and the IT/IoT industries.

John is responsible for bringing these two worlds together, nurturing partnerships and new propositions that allow learnd to deliver for their customers.

Simon Wood

Co-Founder & COO

Simon is responsible for delivering operational excellence to all of our customers.

With an MBA in Sustainability and a BMS background Simon is responsible for the day-to-day running of learnd’s family of businesses.

Harrison Burkitt, Group Financial Director

Harrison is an experienced, CIMA qualified, senior finance professional who has been with the Aimteq/WEMS businesses for over six years.

Harrison leads learnd’s finance team which includes some great talents with  qualifications ranging from CIMA to AAT.

Amy has a Masters Degree in Strategic Human Resource Management which is accredited by the CIPD.

Amy is responsible for ensuring our people have the skills, knowledge and confidence in their abilities to meet our customers’ needs.

Richard Oakley, Strategic Accounts Director

Richard is one of the best known names within the BMS industry for complex sales and strategic account management.

Richard joined learnd earlier in 2020 from EON Controls Solutions – the largest BMS systems integrator in the UK, where he led their complex sales team, with a quota of over £35m.

Kris Mitchell, Projects Director

Projects Director

Kris joined learnd through the Comfort Controls acquisition, where he was General
Manager and Technical Director – overseeing the strong growth and high profitability.

Kris has vast experience at both a technical and leadership level within the BMS industry.

David Thomas - Service Director

David Thomas

Service Director

Dave is a very well respected and established individual within the BMS Systems industry, with over 25 years of experience working for both product manufacturers & system integrators.

Dave leads all of learnd’s service business, which includes the delivery of long-term contracts and remedial works.
